How To:

Make Edible Cookie Dough

Software:
After Effects, Audition, Premier

Timeline:
8 Weeks

Deliverables:
1 minute 30 second Motion Piece
The idea behind the How To motion video was to work with animating text, shoot original footage, and then create a system to follow. Initially, I chose to teach my audience how to crochet a heart-shaped keychain. I wrote clear instructions, storyboarded different concepts, created mood boards to illustrate the tones and styles I was aiming for, produced an animatic to bring the ideas together, and filmed a subject completing the process. After six weeks of research and ideation, the SD card containing all of my footage became corrupted just two days before the rough draft was due.

*RIP to my SD card.*

STORY BOARD

INSIGHTS

In a rush to complete the assignment, I decided to discard my weeks of research and change the topic of my video. At the last minute, I chose to teach my audience how to make edible cookie dough. It was a process I could complete at home, in a short amount of time, and something I already knew how to do.

This process was a struggle because I had to recreate the entire project from scratch. Although I finished the assignment in time to make revisions and typography adjustments, the rushed timeline left me without the deeper reasoning behind some of the decisions I made.
